New Years resolutions

This weekend at church, Chris Hodges, the founder at Highlands Church in Alabama spoke.  He gave some great perspective on how our new years resolutions should be more focused on life after earth.  In fact he outlined that if you try to resolve your life with earthly things, you will find yourself frustrated, tired, and just plain Unfulfilled.  He suggested that we start the year off with a bang by following 4 things.

Pray:  We should give our first and our best to God, the rest is ours to use as we please.  Megan and I have been getting up every morning, ok she is better than I am but Youversion makes reading the bible so easy, and praying over your day sets it in the right direction.  Gone are the excuses of waking up on the wrong side of the bed, I know that if I am having a bad day, I have a choice to change it through my actions, Prayer.

Serve: I can tell you from personal experience that when we change from Church Consumers to Christlike Servants, you get to impact the eternal.  We server every week in Yukon, I can say that I get more out of serving our service more than going to the service, my church consumerisim attitude is over and donewith.

Give: Your time, energy, and love.  Many people rope in the tithe, 10%, ore more unfortunately what they find in the bottom of their pocket when the offering plate goes by.  Our lives began to transform when we started giving our first to God.  Give without want, give because you understand that God cause use your gifts to impact the world.

Share Christ: This is the most difficult for most, including myself.  Many people are afraid of being shut down, not knowing what to say, or losing a friend.  We are called to sow seeds, thats it, sometimes just living life differently than others can sow that seed, but never back down from an opportunity.

This year I grew more than I ever have, not just in my belly, but in my relationship with Jesus and being a leader of our household.  2011 presents such a great opportunity, Megan and I are wanting to surpass our growth of 2010 and step up our game.  I don't want to limit our goals, but we are shooting high, we truly want to make an impact in this world.  I challenge everyone to look at this 4 simple things, and see how we can all make an impact.

There is a first time for everything

Well, here goes nothing.

This is officially my first post ever in the world of blogging, which is surprising since I used to love to write.  To be able to put your words on paper, edit, spell-check, and utilize the ever important filter before you put your ideas out there is an amazing concept.  I will save the life changing rhetoric for latter posts, today I just wanted to spend a few moments to spell out my love for my family.

I have an amazing wife that builds me up to be a better leader, father, husband, and Man of God; she is part of the inspiration for my starting my own blog  She also brought into the world an amazing little girl Lindsey, who is the light of our life.  Tonight we put out cookies and milk for Santa, and went to go to bed.  Before we can go to sleep, she wants to pray for our friends and family, and sometimes the occasional stuffed animal.

Both of our families live out of state, so our local family consists of several couples that we get to go to church with, our neighbors Becky and Buddy, and our small group from church of which we do life together.  I am so thankful for everything that we have been blessed with this year, and am super excited about what 2011 has in store for the Dunks family.
